In the Abstract

Elizabeth Steel

I have always loved art, and after retirement I had time to respond to the pull of creative energy. At first, I focused on jewelry and metalwork, taking courses and workshops, primarily at Montgomery College. I also studied briefly with a silversmith in Mexico. Returning home, I moved on to larger sculptural works, creating pieces in stone, steel, terra cotta, fabric, and Dri-Vit (an outdoor material with stucco-like qualities).

As I’ve grown older, I have moved towards two-dimensional work, which is less physically demanding. I started by learning to create mono prints using gel substrates. Then I gained experience with other forms of printmaking and with acrylic and watercolor painting. This show includes acrylic painting and mixed media wall pieces. Some of the pieces incorporate materials such as foils, fabrics, and papers to enhance and manipulate textures, shapes, and colors.

I’ve exhibited widely, won some awards, and been excited to have my artwork sold, distributed, and exhibited throughout the United States and in Canada. Please enjoy this show and feel free to contact me if you’d like to learn more about me and my work or visit my studio.
